In re: Gilmore Girls

I'm out. Are you fucking kidding me? I'm out. I'm fucking out. No way. I'm out.

And man, I had loved the writing so far this season. Finally, they were acting like PEOPLE, and not characters in a teevee show, forced to create dramatic situations. Until the very last line of the episode. Fuck that.

i totally agree.

i'll stick with it, but i'm hoping this is the last season.

Tell me wha' happen'! I never watched the show religiously but I caught a handful of shows a season or two ago so I'll know who is who.

I LOVE TEEVEE

I only watched the show for a little while a couple years ago (when Lorelei and...um...that guy who wears the baseball hats finally got together), and I've seen bits and pieces of episodes last season (like the wedding episode?). I watched the tail end of it last night before Veronica Mars came on, and while I thought the text messaging thing with Rory was really cute, I was all, "EFF THIS GUY!" with the Lorelei ending.

So what I'm saying is, I can only imagine how upsetting it is to a devoted viewer. My condolences.

i'm really hoping i can make it through the entire season, it would be extremely heartbreaking to have to stop watching it. but i think a lot of their small choices were what they think "fun" and "interesting" people are like, but they're weird and not natural. i don't know, i'm rambling. there has been stuff i liked a lot, and i want to give the new team the benefit of the doubt, but...

What did she say?!? Our recording had effed up sound and we couldn't make it out.

SPOILER!

[identity profile] mordicai.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
She said "Hi Chris."

or maybe "Christopher, hi."

but that is it.

[identity profile] mordicai.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm with you.

[identity profile] mordicai.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, a bunch of it was gross; like they don't know when to reference pop culture & when to do academic culture...then when they DO choose it, it is all fucked up & confused. Its gone/going from low-brow & high-brow alternatingly to middle-brow. Or I could just be a pessimist! Hopefully.

[identity profile] ranai.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
omg what context was this in? Like, were you being led to believe she was like, calling someone she was in love with and you think it's Luke but it's really Christopher? Because that would be some shit and fuck that guy. OH WAIT LORELAI DID, THE WHORE.

I've missed the new eps so I'm out of the loop.

She felt frustrated and lonely, and instead of sucking it up and being an independent woman for once, she HAD to get on the phone, like she ALWAYS does, and I didn't want her to have to call anyone, but I was hoping that at least she was maybe calling Luke, which I STILL would not have been happy with, but no, she called Christopher.

[identity profile] littlewashu.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
At the end of last season, she broke up with Luke in frustration, and then went to Chris for comfort, and ended up sleeping with him. It was a bad decision, and she's regretted it so far this season. She's been very good about being clear with Christopher, and keeping him at a distance. Then, tonight she gets a little lonely, so she calls Chris. Makes me so mad.

[identity profile] littlewashu.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm being dramatic, I'll keep watching. If this is just a passing thing, fine. But I'm not going to watch a season of Lorelai and Christopher. That is not fun, that is annoying. I can't stand that guy, and I don't like to watch him. Even when he's doing something nice, he seems slimy.

I'm a HUGE fan of heartbreaking endings to romantic comedies, and of unrequited love. I wouldn't mind watching a season of Lorelai and Luke being awkward, and renewing a friendship, and having things be weird. I think that would be interesting. I think with Christopher thrown back into the mix again, it's just frustrating. Can't this woman be single for five seconds?

[identity profile] cindylou.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I've gotten so tired of the "quirky" townspeople. Enough already! Just give me lots of cute mom/daughter banter with some Suki thrown in for good measure.

OY. Woman! NO!

[identity profile] fordmadoxfraud.livejournal.com 2006-10-11 06:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I still haven't caught up with LAST season (I know! it's been on DVD for like a month now), but I'm disappointed that you and Mordicai and everyone else have been saying the show's taken a nosedive.

disgusted

Part of the fun of GG's was the snappy reparte and the obscure cultural references. It's obvious that the new writers aren't up to the task so they have to turn the characters into bland wussy little whiners, which, evidently is all they can write for. I mean, imagine. After all the books Rory's read both for pleasure and for school and she can't come up with a steamy text message? She's a writer fer gawds sake! And Lorelai's being a complete ass about whether she likes pop tarts and junk food. What's next? Deciding that she doesn't really like coffee but only drinks it because she once thought her mommy wouldn't like it? How lame.

And what's up with the assumption that Laine will carry the kid to term? For a supposedly open-minded feminist woman like Rory to not even MENTION the alternatives...puh-leeze. Especially when Laine starts freaking out about the pregnancy.

If these new episodes are any indication on how disappointing it's gonna be from now on....thank god this's the last season.

Yeah, I'm kind of confused as to where they are going with this whole storyline..

i don't watch it but it sounds very realistic.
