Okay, now my worst nightmare is that in a few weeks I'll get another engineering job.

I'm so easily swayed by suggestion: after a fifteen minute conversation with Culann yesterday, I'm CERTAIN that I want to go to Europe for three weeks - the Meditteranean part. If anyone would like to join me for a leg of my adventure, let me know.

Oh, and I've officially pissed away my second day of being off. This doesn't bode well for the rest of my unemployment.

And this post is pointless, but . . . I feel funny not posting two days in a row. You all will miss me, won't you?

So it goes

I just finished reading, for the second time, Kurt Vonnegut's Timequake. As I have recently mentioned, I hold Kurt Vonnegut in the highest esteem. I like the way he thinks, and I like the way he writes, and his books make me feel very happy about life and very sad about life all at once, but enough of the first part to enable me to accept the second.

There are two things that Kurt Vonnegut says in Timequake that I would like to repeat for you here. The first he says several times, and it's funny because it's true:

"All men are jerks, and all women are psychotic."

And the second he only says once, near the end, and I noticed it because of my current situation:

"Listen: We are here on Earth to fart around. Don't let anybody tell you any different!"

If you need a book to read and trust my judgement, may I suggest some Vonnegut. Perhaps Bluebeard or Galapagos or Breakfast of Champions or Slaughter-House Five; Timequake is not a novel so much as Kurt just talking about stuff, and it's difficult to appreciate, I think, unless you already have great affection for the man and what he has to say.

That's all.
