littlewashu: (james t. kirk - spitting back the coffee)
Last Friday Jeff and I went to see Mr. Lif and Aesop Rock at the basement of the Unitarian Church.

I squeezed into a TEENY TINY parking space that was only about 2-3 feet longer than my car, and I made it in on the first try!  I mean I had to creep up and back twenty times to straighten out, but I didn't have to pull out of the space again to get a better angle or anything.

Whilst smoking cigarettes outside the venue, before we went inside, we saw Mr. Lif arrive with two twenty-twoish white kids.  And then, when we were coincidentally following him into the venue, he said Hi and It's too bad we didn't get to hang out last time I was here to another twenty-twoish white girl on the way in.  Why is Mr. Lif on such familiar terms with young white kids in Philly, and why aren't I one of them?

He and Aesop were fantastic.  The guys performing when we went arrived (Hanger 18) were less so.  You know, I may not know a lot about hip hop, but I know when it is boring and I don't like it!  My high school self would never have believed it.

Jeff and I returned to my car (parked on 23rd Street at Locust, among apartments we could never afford) and as I opened the door I said "that's funny, it felt like it wasn't even closed" and then I realized someone had broken into my car.

Stuff from the glove compartment was strewn about the car.  Jeff's phone was gone (but the clip was still there on the floor:  why?)  Stuff was all over, but not much seemed to be missing.  I was actually sort of insulted that they left my hands-free device.  It is an excellent hands-free device!  Jeff said they boviously are not into cell phone accessories.

I had CDs in the doorside mapholder jawns on both sides, but I guess the perp didn't notice them, because they were untouched.  Aside from Jeff's phone, the only thing he seemed to have taken were the CD cases in the little shelf underneath the radio -- but you guys, those were all empty.  that's where I keep the cases for the discs that are in the radio.  Now, I'm highly disorganized, so it's possible that they got a disc or two (which I'll figure out eventually), but besides that, just . . . some album art.  And empty cases.  Joke's on them!

Coincidentally enough, Jeff's cell phone was turned off the next day anyway (it's a long story,) so all in all we lost a) the phone numbers in Jeff's phone (replaceable) and b) some cd cases, and possibly one or two discs.  That's it.  There wasn't anything else of value in the car anyway, but he could have taken a lot of stuff that would have created a headache for me, like my registration or insurance card, or my housekeys.

I suspect it was my own damn fault.  After I parked the car, I got back in to fine-tune my centerization betwixt my neighboring vehicles.  Either I didn't lock it the second time, or the door didn't close all the way and I didn't notice (it's very light, and has a tendency to close half-way unless I slam it).  In a way, I'm hoping that's what happened:  I'd rather be a fucking idiot, then a smart person with an easily-break-intoable car.  You know?

But yeah, no scratches or anything.  And Aesop and Lif were awesome.  So really, in this, the best of all possible worlds, it was the best of all possible car break-ins, and therefore the best of all possible evenings.  I can't complain.  Though I am hoping this fufills my quota; I'd not had my car broken into before, so can this one count, God?  Thanks!  You've been great to me so far.

Hakim might be around tonight!  Tomorrow:  gettin' my hair did!  Also maybe seeing Hak perform in a poetry slam!  If not maybe seeing Schoolgirl Figure!  Sunday:  probably going in to work!  Though I really need to get some laundry done!

Have a great weekend, you already-home-from-work motherfuckers!
