It's snowing out! Wonderful, real, honest-to-goodness snow that FILLS the air and comes down white and sticks to the streets and is so quiet. I don't think we got a SINGLE snowfall like this all last winter! It's beautiful. Two or so inches already, they say we'll get six to eight. I wish I didn't have school so that I could play in it. Yesterday I came to work early and so saw the survey guys, who gather at the office before going out into the field. Yesterday I was thinking that I was glad for once that I was not a surveyor, because it was bitter cold yesterday, and I yam delicate and do not like cold. But if it's snowing, it's worth it, I don't know why, but it just is. And today I would have loved to be a surveyor.

I'm very very thankful for my nonexistant commute today. When I worked in Philly, this snow would have added a LOT of time to my commute. I don't remember going to work in the snow, but I came home in it a few times, and once it took me three and a half hours to get home. It usually took me 25 minutes. I wanted to kill. And sob. Man, and I remember that afternoon, going up to Dave Killingbeck and saying half-jokingly (but not really jokingly at all) "so what time do we get to leave today?" and he said "why would you get to leave early?" and I said "um, because of the snow?" and he said "what snow?" and I know his humor is dry and he was sort of kidding but he also WASN'T because I DIDN'T get to leave early, even though I did absolutely nothing all day long at that job, and they didn't need me, and right then and there, staring at him and trying very hard not to yell or stomp on his foot or anything, I decided when I leave this job, which is going to be VERY VERY SOON, I will NOT be getting a job at another big fucking company. I want to work at a little company where the president makes an announcement that everyone should go home because he is worried about them. I now work at a little company where the president finds the excuse of snow absolutely unacceptable as a reason not to come to work.

Freaking engineers.

It's only a snow day if I'm at HOME, sister! But thanks all the same!

I hope that, when you come home, it's not too dark to play in it. Night-snow-frolicking is great fun. Everything looks really alien in the street-lights.

PS - I'm sorry your boss doesn't see the importance of staying home and relishing this sort of thing. Bah.

Man, I thought I responded to this comment, but it's gone.

None taken! Man, fucking engineers. They're such workaholics; when I joke about leaving work early, they give me this confused look like "why would you want to do that?" And they always think that there is a best way to do everything, and THEY know what that way is. Like, one time I was telling this story about a concert I went to in New York (back when I lived at home) and this guy started discussing/arguing with me about my method of getting into the city (driving into Hoboken, and Path from there) and that wasn't even the POINT of the story, and sure there are reasons to take the train all the way in, but I had my reasons too, and it's so fucking FRUSTRATING! Yeah, man, fuckin' engineers. Fuck 'em.

It's beautiful! And tough to drive in! Enjoy the snow-encrusted goodness of your office, Kerry! You may end up having to eat the people inside it!

Not such a bad fate, perhaps.

Oh man, the new girl doesn't live that far away, but she said Fuckit and left at like ten, but she went out to warm up her car and accidentally locked her keys in there! And of course eight million guys went out to help her and she got back into it and went home. I sure hope she's okay!

Maybe you ought to go check on her to make sure! Take a presto log in case her apartment's cold, a shawl can only do so much.

DUDE THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT I SAID!! I also suggested that I drive her to her house to pick up her other set of keys. I have suggested all SORTS of reasons why I should leave this place today, but none of them seem to be flying.
