I love when other sci-fi stuff is like Dune. Right now on this episode of ST:TNG the captain and Wil Wheaton and some dude have crash-landed on a moon that seems to be a desert planet. Moon. Desert moon.

When Episode One was on TV on Thanksgiving, it delighted me to no end. I mean Tatooine, to begin with. And then this kid that everyone thinks is the one . . . what do they call him? The Jedi, what does Liam Neeson think he is? The one who will unite all something? And the Kwisatz Haderach is he who is where um all paths connect? WOW that was wrong terminology but you know, right idea.

I'm almost done with the final book in the Dune series again. Without a doubt, 5 and 6 (of 6) are my favorites. I'll be sad when I'm done.

Well, you could always read those new ones being written by Frank Herbert's goofball son, Arnie Herbert, or whatever.

I recall that episode of Star Trek! Mainly because it was the one where everybody was advised not to talk, because it took valuable moisture from you, which, even if in a roundabout way, amounts to a "Shut up, Wesley!" in my book.

About a week ago, I was driving home from grocery shopping, or booze shopping, shopping for SOMETHING, anyway, and I was listening WRCT (the super-duper CMU college station). Now, there is more than one heavy metal show during the week, but the one I love to catch, whenever I happen to be in the car and it's on, is the one that stays more towards the epic theatrical mega-rock end of the spectrum, as opposed to the other show which does more like growly death-metal stuff. It's done by these two guys who deliver the show in thick, obviously fake Nordic accents, very "Hanz & Franz" like, and they call themselves something clumsy and Teutonic like "Gunther" and "Klaus." You get the picture. ANYWAY. I'm the car, the show is on, I'm rocking out to some ridiculously EPIC ROCK MEGATHEATRICAL CRAZY shit with, like, a billion guitars, and an orchestra, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and gradually I start to listen to the lyrics. And slowly I begin to recognize odd words that shouldn't generally be in a rock song, or any song..."heee is the oonnneee, blah blah blah, sandworm (SANDWORM?), Shaiiii-huluuuuud," and then I realize, holy SHIT, this like an 8 minute heavy metal epic about Dune.

Fucking A. I wish I knew the name of the song, or the band, or ANYTHING, but I don't. I'm sure it wouldn't take more than a few minutes on AMG to deduce that, but, eh, I'm lazy and I kind of like the mystery.

Iron Maiden wrote a sond about Dune. It is called To Tame A Land, off the album Piece of Mind. An excellent album and an excellent song. They are somewhat theatrical, this might be what you heard.

Anakin is prophesied to be "The One Who Will Bring Balance to the Force".

Which to me sounds pretty suspicious, considering as far as they know the dark jedi are centuries gone. If I was a light jedi hearing that shit, I would want to keep the balance just the way it was. Of course, none of them seem to suspect it's a bad thing for some reason.

Yoda seems to think Anakin may be dangerous.
Besides, I think the light jedi are all about balance and shit. I'm surprised they didn't try to revive the Sith themselves, just to keep the universe harmonious.

Yeah, but Yoda is suspicious of everything all the time anyway. He tried to get out of training Luke just as much as he didn't want to have Anakin trained, which admittedly isn't exactly the same situation but goes to show that Yoda doesn't make any decisions lightly.

I see your point about keeping the universe balanced, but at the same time, they seek to protect all life, as it contributes to the force, whereas the dark side generally tends to disregard or actively destroy life. Hmmmm...
